little antique cabinet makeover

Hi friend!! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

Tara and I were recently chatting and realized that we each had a piece of furniture that needed a little love. We both got to work and finished our pieces. Tara turned a plain armoire into a French-looking beauty, and I fixed a sweet little cabinet that I had out in my garage.

Here is the little cabinet before…

I love every single detail of this cabinet, I even loved the stained wood color. And, those wooden casters are so cute! The only problem, the sides of the cabinet were in desperate need of a little fixing. I looked and looked and couldn’t find any wood veneer at local hardware stores and I wanted to get started on it right away, so I decided to add some wood beadboard that I could stain to match.

Even though the bead board is a different variety of wood, the stain would be so dark that I knew it would cover and camouflage it.

The wood stain is a little uneven, but that is how it was on the original piece, and I wanted to keep it as original as possible. I could have sanded the entire piece down and started from scratch but I wanted the unevenness and the little dings and scratches to be part of that aged charm.

This piece took less than an hour in total and was very inexpensive to fix. Don’t you just love to bring an old piece back to life?

  3. This piece is such a cute size and shape and it turned out SO WELL. I’m always “scared” of really dark furniture after living in places that were dark and gloomy but it looks amazing in your home! I need to be more brave! Love the beadboard on it too. It really suits it.
