A Cozy Backyard Retreat Under Our DIY Pergola
A few years ago, I built a small pergola in a quiet corner of our backyard. It’s quaint, cozy, and overflowing with charm—and truly one of my favorite places in our home.
Designing Charm in Small Outdoor Spaces
Whether your yard is big or small, thoughtful touches can go a long way. For our space, I focused on creating a relaxing atmosphere with:
Cozy outdoor seating with soft, neutral colored cushions, a fun colored rug, potted blooms in aged clay pots, a backdrop of climbing roses and clematis, and a charming chandelier that make everything feel magical at dusk

What You’ll Need to Create Your Own Pergola Nook
Thinking about creating your own pergola oasis? Here are a few elements I recommend including:
A sturdy wooden structure (you can DIY or use a kit!)
Soft textiles like cushions and throws for comfort
Lighting—solar-powered string lights or lanterns
Lots of greenery: hanging baskets, vines, and potted plants
Why Outdoor Spaces Matter
This little retreat has brought so much joy to our family. It’s where we gather on warm evenings, sip morning coffee, and reconnect with nature. No matter the size of your yard, it can become a peaceful escape with a bit of love and intention.
A Sweet Summer Table Under the Pergola

One of my favorite things to do during the summer is set a pretty little table right here under the pergola. There’s just something magical about gathering outside with good food, fresh flowers, and the people you love most.
For this table, I kept things simple and seasonal:

Peonies cut from my garden

Lovely tableware from my friends at Arthur Court. I am completely smitten with the tiered grape bowl!

Wine, cheese, and fruit is always a hit!

There’s something so special about setting a table outside—it turns an ordinary meal into a moment to remember. Whether it’s breakfast with the birds, lunch in the shade, or dinner under twinkling lights, eating outdoors always feels like a little celebration.
And this tiny table under the pergola? It’s one of my favorite places to slow down and savor summer.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope this post inspired you to create a little magic in your outdoor space—no matter how big or small.
Wishing you sunshine, blooming flowers, and many slow mornings outside.
