Favorite things Thursday ~ Rub’nBuff
Rub ‘n Buff, I’ve read about it, heard about it, seen it, and just now tried it! Why didn’t I try it sooner? This stuff is amazing!!! It all started when I was doing a little makeover on my mudroom, and wanted to change black hooks, to gold. I didn’t want to buy all new hooks, so I decided to try Rub ‘n Buff, in antique gold. It is so quick and easy to use, and it gave me the antiqued look that I was going for! Then, a couple days later, I was in a rush to throw a little fall display together in my entry. I knew that…

Mudroom Makeover
The second space in my house that I did a $100 makeover, is my mudroom. First, I added tongue and groove boards, that I got from Lowe’s for just $11! And, sampled a lot of paint colors!I finished painting, but still didn’t love this space. I wasn’t loving the baskets or the black hooks. I found some wooden crates at Michael’s, 80% off, making them only $6 each! They were a little too short for the cubbies, so I decided to build a little shelf in each cubby, perfect for shoes. For the shelves, I used the leftover MDF from my entry project. I never used to save left over…

Favorite Things Thursday ~ dollar store pumpkins
You may have noticed that so many people love the dollar store pumpkins! I have seen so many amazing ideas using the dollar store styrofoam pumpkins, so I just had to get some, and see what I could do! I started by removing the stems and tags.Because I didn’t want the orange color to show through my fabric, I gave them a quick coat of paint. Make a hole at the top of each pumpkin, big enough to place your stem in, but not too big, or the stem will be loose and sloppy.Cut strips of fabric, my pieces were 18 inches long, and 1.5 inches wide. I used 10…

Favorite Things Thursday ~ Fall Colors
This year, as I start decorating for fall, I am really loving deep purples, beautiful pinks, greens, whites, with a touch of gold. This is different from my usual fall color palette, but I so love these colors this year!!! My color palette for fall started with these lovely “Thomas Edison” dahlias. Their deep, beautiful purple color screams fall to me!And, of course I couldn’t go without pink! Pink is one of my favorite colors. It hasn’t always been my favorite color, but living in a house of all boys, makes me want to add as much pink as possible. And, you can never go wrong with a little gold!…

Entry Makeover
For those of you that don’t know, my husband and I bought a new house about two years ago. It is so very plain, with white walls, and very little added character and charm. I have finally decided to do some inexpensive room makeovers! Each makeover is going to be $100, or less! I started with my entry way, it is small and in desperate need of a little added character and charm. Here is the entry before…Plain white walls, and a red door that I never truly loved the shade of! I started by adding moldings. All of which were cut from one 4ft x 8ft sheet of mdf,…

Favorite Things Thursday~ Mirrors
There is no question, I adore vintage mirrors!!! Yesterday, as I was working on moving a bunch of my mirrors from one room to another, I realized just how much I love my old, perfectly imperfect mirrors!Mirrors make the best backdrops for fun displays. You’ll almost always find fresh flowers, or foraged greenery in the forefront of my mirrors. I am working on a little creative challenge for myself, 100 dollar room makeovers. I love when I limit the money that I spend, it makes me use my creativity and ingenuity. I started in my entry, I will share it with y’all on Monday! Thank you for visiting LeCultivateur!!! ~Emily…
