French Vintage Friday ~ beautifully crazed

Happy Friday, friends!! Happy May 1!!

Today, for French Vintage Friday, I’m sharing something that I find beautiful, crazing!

What is crazing exactly?

Crazing is the fine cracks in the porcelain’s glaze. They often have a spiderweb-like appearance. Stains can set in and make the crazing more visible and make the dishes look dirty or worn. The cause of crazing is the glaze being put under too much tension.

While crazing is lovely, cracks in any dishes can hold bacteria. Dishes that have any cracks, even tiny crazing, can be unsafe for foods and eating.

So many of my old dishes do have crazing and cracks, so I keep them for lovely decorative use only. I love the charm and beauty of old things!!

  1. I say the more crazing the better on the old pieces. Makes them even more special and unique. I love all your pieces. Makes my heart skip a beat looking at pictures like these.

    1. Thank you, my friend!!!

  2. I love crazing too! The pieces I have with no crazing I would think about using but if it broke I’d cry. They’re to be looked at and loved from a far.

Some are so old they aren’t safe due to lead.

    Enjoy!
